The Opportunity
Expanding Personal Injury Law Firm has an immediate opening for a Senior Accountant in our Lafayette, Louisiana office. The Senior Accountant will work closely with our Director of Finance to provide financial and administrative support to our firm and clients. This role requires strong interpersonal skills where professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity are showcased. A successful candidate for the role will be team and detail-oriented. Success in this role will also require the ability to multi-task and be solution driven to ensure accurate and timely processing of all matters and extraordinary service to our clients.
Objective
Provide financial, administrative, and client support to the firm by accurately maintaining client financial records, processing complex client trust account transactions, assisting with monthly financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting and regulatory requirements.
Desired Outcomes
Accountable for accurately maintaining client financial records within accounting and legal software systems.
Collaborate with paralegals to reconcile client financial records with legal software systems.
Record charges related to medical transportation.
Record and reconcile daily medical record charges, including processing of voids and credit adjustments.
Process medical provider and court cost refunds.
Prepare and post journal entries to record approved bad debt write offs.
Record voided checks in accounting software and reconcile entries in legal software.
Manage client Lines of Credit (LOC), ensuring accurate posting of principal payments and balance payoffs.
Ensure all client trust accounts are brought to a zero balance after settlement and properly record all settlement details in legal software.
Accountable for timely and accurate reporting of monthly financial statements and supplemental reports.
Assist in the preparation and review of monthly financial statements and firm-wide reporting packages.
Prepare and post journal entries to provide accurate month-end and year-end closes.
Perform general ledger account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and areas of concern or opportunity.
Generate and review key performance indicator (KPI) reports to support operational and financial decision-making.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of all supplemental financial reports provided to department managers.
Miscellaneous
Maintain and process transactions for other Partner entities (LE Holdings).
Provide support and assistance to accounting team and leadership with routine tasks and projects.
Job requirements
Skills/Abilities
High attention to detail with strong organizational and analytical skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft products including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Ability to perform account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial analysis independently.
Familiarity with KPI reporting and performance metric tracking.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
Integrity and professionalism in handling confidential and sensitive financial information.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Willingness to perform any/all tasks as assigned by handling attorney, supervisor and/or firm leadership in support of the firm’s growth and success.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
Minimum 3-5 years of accounting experience.
Experience processing and reconciling transactions.
Proficiency in Accounting Software (NetSuite preferred).
Prior experience within a law firm or professional services environment preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
